October 15 Grand Opening of New Eco-Friendly Business Incubator in Washington, DC

(Washington, DC) — On Friday, October 15, Washington, DC’s new Center for Green Urbanism welcomes you to an opening celebration for the first green-inspired business and art center east of the Anacostia River. The Center is an art-infused business incubator providing office space to small and mid-size companies, an environmentally-themed art gallery and demonstration model for homes and businesses in the heart of downtown Ward 7. The Grand Opening will begin at 2:00 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.

 

The Center for Green Urbanism borders the National Fort Mahan Park.  Its environmental ties has attracted the attention of the national organization Groundwork USA. The Center for Green Urbanism is the brainchild of environmentalist Zandra Chestnut and Dennis Chestnut, Washington community leader and Director of Groundwork Anacostia River, DC, the center’s first tenant. Join us for this monumental occasion!

About the Center for Green Urbanism

The mission of the Center for Green Urbanism is to create a business-friendly environment that provides startups with affordable office space and business services in a sustainable and energy-efficient green demonstration facility. We are located in downtown Ward 7, Washington, DC. Meeting spaces are available and Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the facility.  The Center is a design model for a “living green business” in an urban setting, by decreasing our carbon footprint — promoting home gardening, using energy efficient lighting and appliances, solar shade window treatments, a purified drinking water system, water saving devices and the recycling of trash and waste.

The ReCREATE art exhibition is accepting submissions for its green-themed inaugural show at the new Center for Green Urbanism’s Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery in Washington, DC. In keeping with the “green” mission of the Center and Gallery, ReCREATE focuses on art created from items that are normally thrown away but can be recycled.

About the Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery

The Gallery is part of the Center for Green Urbanism, a new eco-friendly business incubator located in downtown Ward 7 in Northeast Washington, DC. The Center and Gallery are located at 3938 Benning Road, NE, Washington, DC on the edge of Fort Mahan Park, a national park site and gateway to the Fort Circle Park Trail. The center includes environmentally-friendly interior design created by Design Scheme Interiors. The gallery is managed by Sharon Burton, founder of Authentic Contemporary Art. Maryland Institute for Dance Open House August 21

(Clinton, Maryland) –Maryland’s new non-profit dance school—The Maryland Institute for Dance (MID) – welcomes you to its open house on August 21st from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Surratts-Clinton Library in Clinton, Maryland. The school is designed to advance the dreams of Maryland dancers (ages 3 through adult) and choreographers, while providing financial support for students to attend MID, performing arts high schools and colleges.

 

“The staff and volunteers of MID are excited to begin our work with dancers around the state,” said MID Founder Essence Moore. “The Maryland Institute for Dance will specialize in training the most professional and aware performers, while teaching the importance of body awareness, style, poise, grace and overall health. Most importantly, MID will be a premier and affordable dance school, servicing families of all income ranges.”
During the open house, attendees may register for classes which begin in September, meet the staff and volunteers, watch performances, participate in demo classes and learn about how to teach courses at MID in contemporary, hip-hop and African dance –MID is the perfect place for new and experienced dancers to develop their love for the art. About MID

The Maryland Institute for Dance is a traveling non-profit dance school created in 2010. Our mission is to provide quality dance education, to develop outstanding, goal-oriented and purpose-driven performers and highly sought-after dance instructors. The Maryland Institute for Dance supports the goals of young performers by providing scholarships for students to attend MID and also higher and private learning institutions. Students include ages 3 to adult who aim to perfect their dance or choreography skills. Classes begin in September 2010.
